Manage Data Sources

To offer an enhanced solution, standalone Cove Data Protection (Cove) replaced Backup and Recovery. Where Backup and Recovery has been enabled and continues to be so for devices, the options presented here are still available.

If Backup and Recovery options are not present in your N-sight RMM, you need to use Cove.

To start a 30-day free trial of Cove, click the app switcher in the Product Bar, and select Cove Data Protection (Cove).

With Backup & Recovery, you can also backup Network Shares, Exchange Information Stores, SQL Server Database Instances and take application aware VMware Snapshots.

However, unlike Files and folders or System State, these need backed up via one device only and so these are configured via the Backup Manager on individual servers where needed in the Client or Site.

Accessing a device's Backup Manager:

Via the device

  1. Log on to the device
  2. Click the Backup Manger icon on the desktop (where available)

or

  1. Go to Start > All Programs
  2. Open Backup & Recovery Backup Manager

Via the dashboard

  1. Right-click on the target device in the North-pane of the Dashboard (or from the Server or Workstation drop-down)
  2. Go to Backup & Recovery
  3. Select Open Backup Manager

Backup & Recovery Documents for workstations and laptops only supports the Files and folder data source. The Documents version of the Files and folders data source is non-configurable.

Plugin (data source) Specific pre-requisites

Pre-requisites are required for some plugins (data sources) to ensure the backup, and subsequent restore, work as expected with these are covered in their own topic:

If changes are made to the Schedule, Backup selection or LocalSpeedVault in the Backup Manager, the policy is set at the individual level and the device no longer inherits the policy settings for the overall device type, Client or Site.
