VSS SharePoint

Standalone Cove Data Protection (Cove) has replaced Backup and Recovery. If Backup and Recovery is enabled for your devices, the options shown here are still available.

If Backup and Recovery options do not appear in N-sight RMM, use Cove instead.

To start a 30-day free trial of Cove:

  1. Open the app switcher in the Product Bar.
  2. Select Cove Data Protection (Cove).

Before using the VSS SharePoint Backup Plugin (data source) we would suggest setting up your environment as described in the MSDN article: Back up and restore SharePoint using a VSS requestor

Backup

The following services should be started prior to the backup running:

  • SharePoint Administration
  • SharePoint Foundation Search V14
  • SharePoint Timer
  • SharePoint Server Search (if SharePoint Server is installed)

Restore

The following services should be started prior to restoration:

  • SharePoint VSS Writer
  • Volume Shadow Copy
  • SharePoint Tracing

With the following services stopped:

  • SharePoint Administration
  • SharePoint Foundation Search V14
  • SharePoint Timer
  • SharePoint Server Search (if SharePoint Server is installed)
  • Where the whole farm is to be restored, the SharePoint Foundation and Internet Information Server (IIS) services must be shutdown
  • If only selected Web applications or other components are being restored, the Web applications must be shutdown and the components may not be in use during the restoration
