Monitor Additional Jobs

To offer an enhanced solution, standalone Cove Data Protection (Cove) has replaced Backup & Recovery. Where Backup & Recovery has been enabled and continues to be so for devices, the options presented here are still available.

Where Backup & Recovery options are not present on your N-sight RMM dashboard, this means you will now need to use Cove.

To start a 30-day free trial of Cove, click the app switcher in the Product bar, and select Cove Data Protection (Cove).

The Daily Safety Check (DSC) Backup Check - Backup & Recovery is automatically added when Backup & Recovery is enabled on a device.

As multiple backup plugins (data sources) may be added or removed on the device, we would suggest changing the Number of backup jobs to check for to reflect the plugins currently configured on the device. This will avoid false positives or negatives when making changes to the backup set on the device.

For example, change the figure from 1 to 3 where the current backup is for Files and Folders then System State and Network Share are added.

To action these changes:

  1. Highlight the device in the North-pane
  2. Navigate to the Checks tab
  3. Select the Backup Check - Backup & Recovery check
  4. Either right-click the check or use the Check drop-down menu, and select Edit Check
  5. Update the Number of backup jobs to check for count
  6. Click OKto save and apply

Where a change to the backup schedule has occurred it may be necessary to alter when this DSC runs to ensure this is after the backup completes.

  1. Highlight the device in the North-pane
  2. Choose Edit Device from the right-click menu (or Server or Workstation drop-down)
  3. Change the DSC Run Time from the drop-down in the Check Frequency section
  4. Click OK to save and apply

Please note that the option to add additional jobs is not available for workstations or laptops using Backup & Recovery Documents edition.

Multilple Plugin (Data Source) Schedules & Multiple Backup Checks

When a backup job is added which runs on a different daily schedule to the existing Backup Check, we would suggest adding another Backup Check to monitor this schedule and monitor all of the backups that are scheduled to run on these days. This ensures that the correct number of jobs are monitored and avoids the potential false positives where the number

For example if Files and Folders and System State backups both run MTWTFSS and backups for SQL and Exchange are added which run on M_W_F__ we would suggest using two checks.

Backup scenario
Plugin (Data Source) Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday
Files and Folders 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
System State 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
SQL 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
Exchange 1   1   1 1 1
Total Backup Jobs 4 3 4 3 4 4 4
Recommended Check Configuration for scenario - 2 Backup Checks
Which Backups (days) Number of backup jobs to check for
Backup Check 1 M_W_F__ 4

To add the additional Check from the Dashboard:

  1. Highlight the device in the North-pane
