Windows Agent settings FAQs
Use a staff N-sight RMM login (internet access is required to validate the credentials), the credentials the Agent was installed under or the Alternative Password (where configured).
When deployed via the Site Installation Package the Agent Key is the one used to create the package.
After installation, you can Reassign devices to a different Client and/or Site using the All Devices view.
To change the Agent Mode you uninstall the current Agent and then manually reinstall it in Server Mode. Before you uninstall the Agent, we recommend you export any required historical information.
Running the Agent in Server Mode, on servers or workstations, will incur Server charges.
To reduce the notification volume, only Server Agents generate Data Overdue and Data Received Alerts. By default the Workstation Agent goes into offline mode when the machine shuts down. Data overdue alerts and data received alerts are not generated for workstations.
Regardless of the installed Agent type, the Device reports as Offline in the Dashboard if the computer gracefully shuts down (default setting).
To change the Offline behavior and configure the overdue threshold for Servers:
- In the All Devices view North-pane, right-click the target device and select Edit Server or Edit Workstation
- On the General Settings section, configure:
- Offline Settings (Workstation)
- Offline and overdue alert settings (Server)
- Select OK to save and apply.
The Agent automatically runs an Asset Scan after installation, but it may take a number of Agent cycles to complete, process and upload.
The scan then runs daily to check for any hardware of software changes on the local computer. To avoid unnecessary traffic, the scan results are only uploaded to the Asset Tracking section when a change is detected. For example where software or hardware is added, updated or removed.
If Asset Tracking information is not returned from Virtual Machines, either Allow Asset Tracking to report on Windows Virtual Machines or add ALLOWVIRTUALMACS. For more information, see Virtual Machines.
If the networked devices you wish to query for Asset Tracking information do not have an Agent installed, the Agentless Scan available from the Server Agent may be used to retrieve this information.
