Hyper-V Cluster Backup

To offer an enhanced solution, standalone Cove Data Protection (Cove) has replaced Backup & Recovery. Where Backup & Recovery has been enabled and continues to be so for devices, the options presented here are still available.

Where Backup & Recovery options are not present on your N-sight RMM dashboard, this means you will now need to use Cove.

To start a 30-day free trial of Cove, click the app switcher in the Product bar, and select Cove Data Protection (Cove).

Backup Manager 2014 is cluster-aware for Hyper-V which means that clustered Hyper-V virtual machines may be backed up when they are part of Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV).

Please be aware that we only support clusters deployed on Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Follow the steps outlined in Microsoft Hyper-V Backup to create a Backup and subsequently Restore a backup.

When making the Backup selection please do not add the host component as the backup of a Hyper-V cluster will fail if the root folder is selected.

Notes

Only locally hosted Hyper-V virtual machines are included in the backup.

Due to a Windows OS limitation, it is not possible to backup CSV and non-CSV in the same set on Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2. This is covered in the Microsoft article A backup job may fail with a CSV and non-CSV volume in the same set on Windows Server 2012.

A backup job may fail where it contains a Hyper-V cluster deployed on a non-supported Operating System, for example Windows Server 2008 R2 or earlier.
