Deploy the Windows Agent using Group Policy

N-sight RMM Trials are limited to 10 device installations. To install more devices or extend your trial, please contact us.

You can deploy the Windows Agent from the Group Policy Management Console or from Active Directory Users and Computers, depending on the method you used earlier. You can deploy per user, but we recommend deploying per computer.

Before you begin

Compete these tasks before you deploy the Windows Agent using Group Policy (as applicable):

  1. Create and download a Group Policy Site installation package
  2. Create and Share the Software Distribution Point Folder
  3. Create and Link the Group Policy Object via the Group Policy Management Console OR Create the Group Policy Object via Active Directory Users and Computers

Deploy the Windows Agent

  1. Open the Group Policy Management Console or the Active Directory Users and Computers (based on the method you used earlier).
  2. Right- click the newly created GPO (for example, Agent MSI), then select Edit.
  3. Choose where to apply the policy:
    • To apply to a computer (recommended), go to Computer Configuration .
    • To apply to a user, go to User Configuration.
  4. Expand Policies (SBS2008) > Software Settings.
  5. Right-click Software Installation, then select New > Package.
  6. Enter the full Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path of the Agent MSI file, then select Open. For example: \\SERVER\ NetworkInstaller\agent.msi

Enter the full UNC path. Do not browse to the location, because browsing can prevent the Group Policy from applying correctly.

  7. When prompted for the deployment method, select Assigned then select OK.

After a new Windows device joins the network, the GPO automatically deploys the Windows Agent to the device. The Windows Agent installs and adds the device to the All Devices view under the Client and Site you selected when you created the site installation package.
