Clean uninstall the Bitdefender engine
This article provides the steps need to perform a clean uninstall of the Managed Antivirus Bitdefender Engine from a device.
To complete the clean uninstall process, you need the Managed Antivirus Uninstall Tool which is only available from N-able support. Create a support case requesting the tool at N-ableMe.
Complete the following steps to perform the clean uninstall process:
- Uninstall from the All Devices view
- Delete files, folders and registry entries
- Run the MAV-BD uninstall tool
- Reboot the device
Uninstall from the All Devices view
- Right-click the device in the North-pane then select Edit Device.
- Select Managed Antivirus.
- Change Setting to Off.
- Select OK to uninstall MAV-BD.
Read the Disk Encryption Manager message and take appropriate action before continuing.
The device’s Summary tab shows Managed Antivirus - Uninstalling.
Delete files, folders and registry entries
When the device’s Summary tab shows Managed Antivirus - Not Installed, delete the following files, folders and registry entries from the device:

Registry
Back up the registry before making changes. Registry changes take effect immediately. There is no automatic backup.
- Open
regedit.exe. - Make a backup of the registry.
- Search through the registry and remove any remaining entries for Bitdefender and Managed Antivirus.
Delete MAV-BD entries under the Uninstall key. For example, the Managed Antivirus Master Service key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{F88FE7C0-2B64-405B-9197-25F8BE135459}_is1
Run the MAV-BD uninstall tool
- Reboot the device into Safe Mode with Networking.
- Copy the Bitdefender uninstall tool to the device.
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Go to the uninstall tool directory.
- Run the following command:
/bruteForce- Forcefully uninstalls the product, removing remnants and corrupted files from incomplete installations or uninstalls.
/destructive- Completely removes MAV when the endpoint cannot detect MAV.
MAV_UninstallTool-<VERSION>.exe /bdparams /bruteForce /destructive
For example:
MAV_UninstallTool-1.2.3.456.exe /bdparams /bruteForce /destructive
Reboot the device
- After the uninstall tool finishes, reboot the device .
- Start Windows Normally if prompted.
The device is now ready to re-install MAV-BD if needed.
