Asset tagging (New)

Asset tagging helps label and organize assets so they can be quickly identified, grouped, and managed. In N-sight, tags enable managed service providers (MSPs) to streamline device management, improve triage workflows, and gain deeper operational insight.

Tag types

Static tags

Users manually assign static tags to assets individually or in bulk. Tags can reflect role, location, priority, or other meaningful criteria.

Examples:

  • For L1 technicians: Tags such as VIP, Break/Fix, or Onboarding provide immediate context during triage.
  • For L3 teams: Tags like CriticalAsset or CustomBuild support faster root cause analysis and smarter automation.

Tags must be defined before they can be assigned. Users with administrative or configuration responsibilities manage tag definitions. They can create, edit, and delete definitions, and specify which customers or sites can use them. This helps keep tags consistent and meaningful across environments, supporting clarity and automation when they are assigned to assets.

Dynamic tags (coming soon)

Dynamic tags will be automatically applied based on filter rules. These tags will expand tagging capabilities and enable near real-time classification across environments.

How tags work

1. Administrators create tag definitions

Users with administrative or configuration responsibilities define and manage tag definitions. Static tags are manually assigned, while dynamic tags (coming soon) will be rule-based and automatically applied.

2. Authorized users assign tags to assets

Users who understand your organization's assets, customers, and sites can assign tags. They can only select tags that are available for the asset.

3. Users manage assets with tags

Once tags are assigned to assets, users can filter, search, and group assets by category in the Assets view.

To open the Assets view, select Dashboards > Assets.

If an asset has tags, the tag count appears in the Tags column on the Assets view. Hover over the count to see the assigned tags.

You can also search and filter the list by the Tags column.

Or build a custom filter to find exactly what you need.
