Users & Permissions

The system's Users & Permissions pages, allow you to add and manage users' login credentials so that they can access SpamExperts.

There are different types of users:

Super-admin (SpamExperts Local Cloud only)

A Super-Admin user has full access to the Local Cloud, including all configured domains, users, and to settings that apply to the entire Local Cloud, and to the Control Panel API. One Super-Admin user will have been provided by your N-able Account Manager, and you can create more as required; all super-admins have the same full access to the Local Cloud. A super-admin user may view and change settings and logs for any admin, domain, or mailbox. We strongly recommend that you limit the IP addresses from which super-admin users may log in, and require 2FA for all super-admin users.

Information on adding Super-Admin users can be found in Add a Super-Admin User

Admin

Admins are users that manage a set of domains. SpamExperts Hosted Cloud partners will have been provided with an initial Admin user by your N-able Account Manager. Further Admins are often created through your provisioning mechanism, providing each of your customers with an account with which to manage their set of domains.

Admin users with the appropriate access rights can add and manage other Admin users. Admins who are created by the Admin are sometimes referred to as Sub-Admins of the user who created them (a Parent/Child relationship). At the Admin User level, users can create perform key tasks for SpamExperts, including adding new domains, configuring user permissions, setting up and managing incoming and outgoing email settings and archiving, viewing incoming logs and delivery queues, etc.

With SpamExperts Hosted Cloud, all domains are assigned to an Admin, and this is typically the case with SpamExperts Local Cloud as well. The settings, email, and users for each domain may be managed by the Admin user the domain is assigned to, any Technician of that Admin, any higher level Admin user linked to that Admin (ie. through the “Parent”, “Grandparent”, etc relationship), any Technicains of those higher level Admins, and (on SpamExperts Local Cloud only) any super-admin users.

Admin users with Control Panel API access enabled use their username and password to authenticate against the API, typically with an integration.

Admin users log in using a username and password, or using credentials from another identity provider using OAuth2/OpenID Connect. Admin usernames are unique within each local Cloud and within the entire Hosted Cloud platform. If you do not know the username, contact your Admin to recover this.

Information on adding Admin and Sub-Admin users can be found in Add an Admin User

Sub-Admin

A Sub-Admin user is simply an Admin user that belongs to a higher level (“parent”) Admin.

Technician

Technicians (previously known as an Admin Alias) can be created for Admin/Sub-Admin users to allow multiple people to administer the same set of Domains as the linked Admin/Sub-Admins but each with their own login credentials.

Technician users log in using the username that has been created for them, or using credentials from another identiy provider using OAuth2/OpenID Connect. If you do not know the username, contact your Admin to recover this.

Information on adding Technicians users can be found in Add a Technician User

Domain

A Domain user manages settings and email for all mailboxes within a single domain, and may also manage Email users at that domain. Domain users are typically created automatically through your provisioning system.

Domain users log in with their domain name as the username, and a password.

Information on adding Domain users can be found in Add a Domain User

Email

Email user accounts are for individual mailboxes to allow access to the SpamExperts app. When logged in as an Email user, users can see their quarantined messages, manage their email settings, train messages, etc.

Email users log in with their email address as the username, and a password, or using credentials from another identity provider using LDAP or OAuth2/OpenID Connect.

Information on adding Email users can be found in Add an Email User

This page also allows you to set credentials for enabling OAuth on your Control panel.
