Autotask Integration Prerequisites

Before you setup the N-sight RMM Autotask integration, you must perform the following prerequisites:

  • Ensure the account you intend for the integration has the correct API User security level permissions. The instructions to do this depend on the Autotask release you are using:
  • Configure User Defined Field permissions

Configuring these user defined permissions fields is only required for API users created in Autotask 2020 and later. These permissions were enabled by default for users created in earlier versions of Autotask.

Autotask uses pop-up windows. To avoid potential problems viewing tickets, we recommend you Allow pop-ups for Autotask.

API user

Autotask 2020 release and later

To setup an Autotask API User:

  1. On your Autotask console, hover over the menu icon in the top left and select Admin > Resources (Users)

  2. Select the New drop-down arrow and select New API User

  3. Populate the required fields in the General section

  4. Select Generate Key or enter your Username and Password
  5. In the API Tracking Identifier section, use the Integration Vendor drop-down menu to select N-able- N-able RMM
  6. Select Save & Close to exit and apply the current settings

This API User requirement was introduced by Autotask in April 2020. For integrations configured before this date, you do not have to uninstall existing integration to change the user.

Create an API user as above, then in your All Devices view go to Settings> PSA Integration> Configure Login and enter the new credentials. Click Validate to ensure the credentials are valid then OK to apply.

Configure User Defined Field permissions

Configuring these user defined permission fields is only required for API users created in Autotask 2020 and later. These permissions were enabled by default for users created in earlier versions of Autotask.

If your integration is using User Defined Fields to map the device's Asset Tracking information with the associated fields in Autotask, the Autotask API User's must have the following permissions or the Autotask fields are unavailable for selection:

  • Edit Unprotected Data — Users can edit data in user-defined fields that do not have the protected check box selected. When this is selected, the View Unprotected Data permission is also selected.
  • View Unprotected Data — Users can view data in user-defined fields that do not have the protected check box selected

To configure the User Defined Field permissions in Autotask:

  1. On your Autotask console, hover over the menu icon in the top left and select Admin > Account Settings & Users
  2. Expand Resources/Users (HR) and select Protected Data Permission

  3. Select the boxes under Edit Unprotected Data and View Unprotected Data for the target API user(s)

  4. Click Save to apply
