Install an Authenticator
An authenticator is used to generate the security access code required to authenticate the 2FA login.
You must choose an authenticator that supports the Time-based One-Time Password protocol (TOTP).
Authenticators that use Fast IDentity Online (FIDO), FIDO2, or Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) are not supported.
There are authenticators available for:
- Mobile devices
- Computer web browser extensions
- Computer operating systems
When you use an authenticator for 2FA login, the authenticator generates a single-use security access code that is valid only during a specific cycle time frame. A cycle is generally 30 seconds, but the cycle time frame is dependent on each authenticator.
If you choose a computer-based authenticator, we recommend you choose one with a password protection option and then configure it for the authenticator since one computer can have multiple users. Configuring the password option for the authenticator ensures only the user with access to the authenticator password can view the N-sight RMM 2FA security code.
