About authenticator apps for 2FA

An authenticator app generates the security code required to sign in using Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).

Choose an authenticator app that supports the Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) protocol .

Authenticator apps that use Fast IDentity Online (FIDO), FIDO2, or Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) protocols are not supported.

When you use an authenticator app for 2FA login, it generates a single-use security code that is valid for a specific time frame. Most apps use a 30-second cycle, but this may vary depending on the app.
