Third-Party Patches not Being Installed
Last Modified
Wed Mar 08 20:00 GMT 2023
Description
- Patch Management is turned on on a device, and the Third-Party patching option has been enabled. Despite this, third-party patching does not appear to be functioning (no patches are installed, or even detected available)
Environment
- N-able N-central
Solution
There are a number of factors which could have bearing on why Third-Party patching doesn't seem to function as intended.- One of the main reasons could likely be due to a firewall or AV mangling the zip file containing update. Third-Party detection relies on our agent being able to read the metadata within the zip file (the unique identifier of the update, the product for which the update is applicable, etc...). When it cannot, the third-party detection will fail and, consequently, nothing will patch.
The recommendation here is to verify whether any AVs or Firewalls are blocking the download of or removing some contents of the zip files. You can find the zip files in question at the following location:
C:\ProgramData\MspPlatform\PME\ThirdPartyPatch
- Another reason is if the application is not supported. See: https://documentation.n-able.com/N-central/userguide/Content/Patch-Management/PatchManagement_3Party_Patch_List.htm
- The other thing to check is the metadata on SIS. Our Development team may not have updated the version and/or download link at: http://sis.n-able.com/3rdPartySw/ThirdPartySoftware.xml
Example: AdoptOpenJDK v8.0.242 is currently available but SIS has an older version so devices will not update past it.
<Application ID="150" Name="AdoptOpenJDK 8" RegistryName="AdoptOpenJDK, 8" LatestVersion="8.0.222.10" DateReleased="2019-07-17 10:00" ...
