How to cleanly uninstall Managed Antivirus – BitDefender Engine

 

To cleanly uninstall Managed Antivirus – Bitdefender Engine from a computer (removing all traces of the product) Managed Antivirus must first be disabled for the device on the Dashboard (this will initiate the product's uninstaller) and once complete all traces of the product (files, folders or registry entries) must be removed from the computer itself.

 

Dashboard

  1. Login to the Dashboard
  2. Right-click on the target device in the north panel of the Servers or Workstations and choose Edit Device from the context menu (this option is also available when double-clicking on the device, from the Server or Workstation drop-down or Edit menu).
  3. Select the Managed Antivirus tab
  4. Change the Setting: to Off (before actioning this change please check that Engine: Bitdefender)
  5. Click OK to save changes and begin the Managed Antivirus - Bitdefender Engine uninstall process
  6. Wait for the device’s Summary tab to show Managed Antivirus - Not Installed

 

Local Computer

Access the target computer Managed Antivirus was uninstalled on.


Files and Folders

Remove the following files, folders and registry entries

All Managed Antivirus entries

C:\Program Files\Common Files

All Managed Antivirus entries

All ManagedAntivirus, Managed Antivirus and AntiMalware entries where present.

Search for and remove trufos.sys found

 


Registry

  1. Open regedit.exe
  2. Search through the Registry and remove any remaining entries for Bitdefender and Managed Antivirus. 
As part of this removal process, please ensure that those entries associated with the product under the Uninstall key are deleted.  
For example, the Managed Antivirus Master Service key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{F88FE7C0-2B64-405B-9197-25F8BE135459}_is1).

 

Important: in line with best practice we recommend making a backup copy of the Windows Registry before making any alterations, as changes to the Registry are immediately applied with on automatic backup taking place.

 

 

Run Bitdefender’s Managed Antivirus Uninstall Tool

  1. Reboot device into Safe Mode with Networking
  2. Download and run Bitdefender’s Managed Antivirus Uninstall Tool available from https://download.bitdefender.com/oem/logicnow/BEST/uninstalltool/2018.11.19/Uninstall_Tool_Silent.exe

 

Restart Computer

Restart the computer once the Managed Antivirus Uninstall Tool has finished and choose Start Windows Normally if prompted.



Run VIPRE’s Managed Antivirus Uninstall Tool


Where Managed Antivirus - VIPRE Engine was previously deployed on the device we would suggest running the VIPRE Removal Tool available from here to ensure that Managed Antivirus - VIPRE Engine was completely uninstalled.


Important: the VIPRE Removal Tool automatically forces a reboot every time it runs.


 

Reinstall Managed Antivirus – Bitdefender Engine

If reinstalling Managed Antivirus – Bitdefender Engine:

 

1.     Login to the Dashboard

2.     Right-click on the target device in the north panel of the Servers or Workstations and choose Edit Device from the context menu (this option is also available when double-clicking on the device, from the Server or Workstation drop-down or Edit menu

3.     Select the Managed Antivirus tab

4.     Change the Setting: to On or Use Policy Setting (if set to On)

5.     Choose Engine: Bitdefender

6.     Select the Policy

7.     Click OK to save changes and begin the Managed Antivirus - Bitdefender Engine install process

8.     When installed the device’s Summary tab shows Managed Antivirus – Active and prompts for a reboot (if required).
