Backup Filter Configuration Post-Installation

To offer an enhanced solution, standalone Cove Data Protection (Cove) has replaced Backup & Recovery. Where Backup & Recovery has been enabled and continues to be so for devices, the options presented here are still available.

Where Backup & Recovery options are not present on your N-sight RMM dashboard, this means you will now need to use Cove.

To start a 30-day free trial of Cove, click the app switcher in the Product bar, and select Cove Data Protection (Cove).

Backup Filters are configurable post-installation in the device's Backup Manager, accessible on the device itself or directly from the Dashboard.

Any files and folders matching these filters are subsequently excluded from the backup set.

Launch Backup Manager from the Dashboard

  1. Log in to the Dashboard
  2. Right-click on the target device in the North-pane of the Dashboard (or from the Server, Workstation or Device drop-down)
  3. Navigate to Backup & Recovery
  4. Open Backup Manager - opens in a new browser tab

Launch Backup Manager from the Device

  1. Log on to the device
  2. Go to Start > All Programs
  3. Click Backup & Recovery
  4. Open Backup Manager - opens in a new browser tab

Backup Filter Configuration in Backup Manager

  1. Go to Preferences > Backup Filters
  2. Click the Select Filters field and either select popular filter expressions from the drop-down, or type your own
  3. Save these changes before leaving the Backup Filters tab
    • Repeat to add multiple filters

To remove a filter from the Backup Filters tab:

  1. Launch Backup Manager using either of the above methods
  2. Navigate to Preferences > Backup Filters
  3. Click X against any of the set filters to remove them when they are no longer required

Once deleted, files matching the now removed filter are included in the backup set.

If changes are made to the Schedule, Backup selection or LocalSpeedVault in the Backup Manager, the policy is set at the individual device level and the device no longer inherits the policy settings for the overall device type, Client or Site.
