System state for Linux

The System state data source on Linux allows you to completely recover devices after a disaster, for example, a non-bootable device after the system update or broken disk layout configuration.

The System state data source on Linux can be used to migrate the system to another hardware as well.

The Backup Manager utilizes third-party recovery tool Relax-and-Recover (ReaR) to address System state on Linux. ReaR is the leader disaster recovery and system migration utility for Linux based on GPLv3 license written entirely in Bash.

The following is the conceptual illustration of the communication between the Backup Manager and ReaR during backup and restore processes to recover devices:

  1. During the backup process, the Backup Manager invokes ReaR. ReaR then creates the rescue ISO image which is then backed up by the Backup Manager.

  1. During the restore process, the rescue ISO image is restored and a device is booted from this rescue ISO.
