N-able N-central backup best practices

Description

N-able N-central includes its own internal backup process and this is the only backup process we officially support and recommend. This article will explain where to set this up and what practices to follow.

Environment

N-able N-central 9.4 and later

Solution

• N-able N-central backups can be configured under the System level -> Administration -> System Backup and Restore -> Configure Backup.
• Best practice would be to schedule the backups daily, starting around midnight so as to avoid the daily overnight maintenance that runs around 2-3am local server time. These backups should be configured to FTP to another server that is hosted on different disks than N-able N-central .
• With your backups running properly, if your server crashes and can't be recovered, you can have N-able N-central back up and running in a couple of hours with minimal loss of data.
• If your backups are configured to run, and aren't running or are failing, please contact support so this can be investigated as soon as possible.
