Launch the Take Control viewer
The Take Control viewer is available when making a remote connection to a device.
If a device's agent is offline or not communicating with N-able N-central, the option to remote control the device using Take Control will still be available. The Take Control agent and N-able N-central agent services run independently of one another. This enables you to perform remote maintenance if needed even if the agent is not online. In these cases, the Remote Control button will be yellow and you can hover over the Remote Control button to view more information about the connection, such as when the last Take Control Heartbeat was detected. If the button is gray, then remote control is disabled for that device.
When using Google Chrome v77 and later, you will not be prompted to "Always open these types of links in the associated app". Instead you will need to confirm opening Take Control each time you launch a Take Control session. This is not a limitation with Take Control, but rather the way Google Chrome has implemented its browser protocol handler.
Take Control functionality is only available for N-able N-central devices with upgraded 10.2 or higher agents.
- In N-able N-central, click Views > All Devices.
- Click the device name.
- Click Remote Control in the upper-right corner of the screen and select Take Control.
The Take Control viewer launches to begin a remote session.
You can lock a device to use Take Control viewer each time you click Remote Control. For more information, see Locking and unlocking remote control settings.
If a Take Control integrated device remains inactive or offline for over 90 days, N-central will automatically reinstall the Take Control Agent to ensure it is using the latest version. Please be aware that Take Control connections to the device may experience temporary unavailability while the Agent is reinstalled.
