Configure the format of the network address used on device discovery

Configure the network address used on device discovery and appears in the All Devices page. You can set the display to be either the IP address of the device or a FQDN, such as the machine name. Set this in the discovery defaults.

  1. Click Administration > Defaults > Discovery Defaults.
  2. In the Network Address Type area, select the address format to use. IP addresses are best used when network addresses are static and will not change. FQDNs are best used when monitoring devices on DHCP-enabled networks.
  3. If you want to change the format through existing discovered devices, click Propagate.
  4. Click Save.

You can change the format that appears in N-able N-central later if needed. For more information, see Globally change all device network addresses format.
