Description
- This article addresses the following error that appears when installing an agent on a device:
The wizard was interrupted before Windows Agent could be complete installed.Your system has not been modified. To complete the installation at another time, please run setup again.
Environment
N-able N-central
Solution
- In many cases this error occurs because the device cannot register in N-able N-central. This can be due to:
- Agent has been uninstalled and Asset Tag is still associated with a device.
- No available licenses for your agent or probe (check your license usage report from the SO level > reports > administrative > license usage report to verify you have not reached a limit)
- The device already exists somewhere in N-able N-central.
- If you are using a customer specific installer and the device exists at a lower site level, the registration will fail and will produce the failed wizard message.
- The device may also exist as an un-imported device under configuration > asset discovery > discovered assets.
If your agent has been uninstalled and you are attempting to reinstall and getting this message then do the following first
From another device grab the following file C:\Program Files (x86)\N-able Technologies\Windows Agent\bin\NcentralAssetTool.exe and upload to device in question.
If your N-able N-central version is 10.1 or higher, run the following command (Administrative Command prompt Required):
"C:\Program Files (x86)\N-able Technologies\Windows Agent\bin\NcentralAssetTool.exe" -d ***This is an example and you will need to ensure you are pointing to right location of uploaded fileAttempt to reinstall agent.
- Check the N-able N-central UI and make sure the device you're trying to install is not in the All Devices view. If it exists, either delete it or reinstall using generic setup under Settings >> Local Agent and activation key
- Check the Discovered Assets list
- Under Actions >> Add / Import Devices. Click Discovered Assets. Put a check in "Show Ignored Devices". Check this list.
- You can delete it from here or manually import the device and use the generic setup under Settings >> Local Agent to reinstall the application using the activation key
- If neither of these lead to a resolution, check C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp (c:\users\yourusername\appdata\local\temp)
- Look for the installer's trace logging in NableTrace.log
- Also look for an MSI install log - this log can contain useful entries, especially if NableTrace.log is missing or didn't get written to.
- You can also manually create the device and use the activation key method to install the device. Reference here.
