N-able Backup: Bare Metal Restore completes successfully but Operating System is non functional

Description

• Bare Metal Restore completes successfully
• Machine boots and user can log in but operating system is otherwise non-functional
  • User can see desktop but start menu is non responsive, Shortcuts, such as CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, are also non responsive

Environment

• Cove Data Protection
• N-able RMM
  • Backup & Recovery
• N-able N-central
  • N-able Backup
• Microsoft Windows

Solution

• Check that the requirements of Bare Metal Restore have been met. This can be found in the documentation here: https://documentation.n-able.com/covedataprotection/USERGUIDE/documentation/Content/advanced-recovery/bare-metal-recovery/reqs.htm
• Specifically confirm that the Files & Folders selection is the full System Drive, e.g. C:
• If the full system drive is not selected then the PC can boot but be non-functional.
