Description
- We are installing several Macs of this customer but the new agents keep overwriting existing agents.
- These are all new individual mac and not cloned.
- Mac device with the new Touchbar are being falsely identified as the same device so they bump the previous device.
Environment
- N-able N-central
- Mac device with newer Touchbar technology
Solution
- In this case the Touchbar on the Mac actually has its own MAC Address which is presented by the Operating System as a Network Adapter.
- All devices with this Touchbar use the same MAC Address for that hardware and as such will register with N-able N-central based on that matching MAC Address.
- This creates unwanted overlap of what should otherwise be individual devices.
- Further Reading:
- This behavior is being addressed in N-able N-central by NCCF-10352.
- For a work-around, you can add the MAC Address to the Discovery Defaults exclusion list.
- Mac Address to Exclude:
- ac:de:48:00:11:22
- Instructions on how to add a MAC exclusion:
- Existing devices will likely need to be removed from N-able N-central (deleted) due to the existing overlap in device asset data.
