Description
- How to create a Full Crash Dump
- At times, Technical Support may require a Full Crash Dump from a device to fully identify the root cause of a system crash
- The following instructions will assist in generating this file
Environment
- N-able N-central
- N-sight RMM
- N-able Backup
- Risk Intelligence
- Take Control
Solution
- Check the page file settings and adjust as necessary:
- Open the Control Panel and double-click on System (alternate method: right-click on My Computer)
- Select the Advanced tab
- Under " Performance" click on the Settings button
- Select the Advanced tab
- Click on the Change button
- Check that the page file on the boot drive is large enough to store the entire contents of memory plus one megabyte.
- For example if the system has 1 gigabyte of memory (1024 megabytes) the "Initial size" field should be at least 1025 (This is actually memory size plus 1 meg.)
- Adjust the page file size if necessary
- Click the Set button
- Click OK
- Dismiss any "reboot required" dialog boxes by selecting reboot later
- Click OK
- Leave the System Properties window open and proceed to the next section
- Enable Complete Memory Dump
- Under "Startup and Recovery" click the Settings button
- Under "Write debugging information" select Complete memory dump from the drop down list box.
- Check the box Overwrite any existing file
- Click OK
- A message about pagefile requirements may be displayed -- if so, click Yes
- Click OK
- Reproduce the issue, causing the crash to occur
- During bootup after the crash, the dump file will be generated
- Please allow this to continue or it may be corrupt or truncated prematurely
- Gather the MEMORY.dmp file from C:\Windows\
- Place this file into a zip
- Upload the resulting zip file to https://supportfiles.logicnow.com/data/public/customer_uploads.php
- Reply back on your open case with the name of the zip file uploaded
