The Admin user for Spam Experts is the initial user login provided by your N-able Account Manager. The Admin user is the top level account and has access to all Admin, Domain (where assigned) and Email (where assigned) user level dashboards. Admin users with the appropriate access rights can add and manage other Admin users. Admins who are created by the Admin or a Sub-Admin become Sub-Admins of the user who created them (a Parent/Child relationship). At the Admin User level, users can create perform key tasks for SpamExperts, including adding new domains, configuring user permissions, setting up and managing incoming and outgoing email settings and archiving, viewing incoming logs and delivery queues, etc. Admin Users can be assigned domains, so that only this Admin user and sub-admins of this can access the dashboard specific to that domain. Domains can only be assigned to one admin, so using Technicians allow for access by multiple users.

-
Technician Users (previously known as Admin Alias users) can be created for the Admin user which allow multiple people to login with the same permissions as the primary Admin but with their own login credentials.
-
Allow list policies identify mail that should always be delivered, without any filtering applied to the messages.
-
SpamExperts offers storage of a securly encrypted and compressed copy of legitimate incoming and outgoing email communication in the form of Email Archiving.
-
Manage User/Authentication can be configured to use a Domain. A username and password (SMTP AUTH) to accept mail from, which sends the username of the domain and the password to the filter to authenticate. The username is preset to the domain name in question, and is limited to one Authenticating Domain user per domain. This password should be unique, and is not linked to any interface access accounts.
-
Manage User/Authentication can be configured to use an IP address or range. For example, a smarthost, an IP to authorize all SMTP connections from. Any IP or range authorized here will allow all mail originating to the filter from this address to be assigned to the domain with the IP user binding. IP addresses can be linked to only one account.
-
Manage User/Authentication can be configured to use a User. A username and password (SMTP AUTH) to authenticate outgoing mail with the filter. This is the creation of a username (in the form of an email address) and a password to authenticate with the outgoing filter. This has no control over Manage Mailboxes, Manage email users, Sender verification, or any related settings.
-
Block list policies identify mail that should never be delivered.
-
The ability to brand the SpamExperts dashboard with your own company logo and colours.
-
This allows users to receive, view and send emails from SpamExperts in situations when the email server is suffering an outage.
-
SpamExperts's main interface. The features available on the dashboard may differ depending on the user level of the user currently logged in.
-
If a delivery attempt to a destination mail server returns a temporary failure, all email messages sent to known, valid recipients are queued locally on the SpamExperts filtering servers for delivery retry. During this time, messages can be viewed in the delivery queue and users can use the Continuity features to deal with mail.
-
SpamExperts has a new interface, which is not yet complete and ready for full use. However, it can be viewed by logging in with N-able Single Sign-On (SSO) then using the 'Try the new beta interface' link at the top right of the page.
-
DomainKeys Identified Mail otherwise known as DKIM is an email authentication method designed to detect forger sender addresses in email. When signing outgoing messages with DKIM, recipients are able to verify a respective message is from the sender it claims to be from and that the content of the message has not been modified. DKIM assists in preventing email spoofing, phishing and email spam.
-
Domain-Based-Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance (DMARC) is an email authentication protocol designed to help prevent email spoofing, business email compromise, phishing attacks, etc., when used in conjunction with SPF and/or DKIM, and gives the administrator of the receiving email server the ability to act on messages when the criteria are not met. The receiving email server can authenticate the incoming email based on the instructions published by the domain owner within the DNS entry. If the email passes the authentication it will be delivered and can be trusted. If the email fails the check, depending on the instructions held within the DMARC record the email could be delivered, quarantined or rejected.
-
The Domain is the part of an email address after the '@' sign. All domains and mailboxes that should be filtered and/or archived must be added to SpamExperts. For example, if your company email addresses are mailbox@demo-domain.invalid, the domain to be added is 'demo-domain.invalid'.
-
If you have multiple domains that are associated to one another, for example demodomain1.invalid, demo-domain.invalid, demodomain2.invalid, etc. you may create the Primary Domain then create Domain Aliases linked to the Primary Domain. This means any email sent to email@demodomain2.invalid will be delivered to the same user at the Primary Domain: email@demodomain1.invalid.
-
A Domain user login should be used by the administrator of the Domain in question. This is the login that would be provided to the domain so that they can manage their own domain settings. Logins use the Domain and a password.
-
SpamExperts's email protection service includes incoming filtering and outgoing filtering.
-
Email Scout Reports (ESRs) provide an overview of messages that have been quarantined. If enabled, an Email Scout Report is automatically sent to every mailbox in the domain at specified times (up to three times daily). The report includes options to view the body of the message and manage the message as you see fit: release message from quarantine, release message and train as not spam, allow list sender and block list sender.
-
Email user accounts are the logins for individual mailboxes to allow them to login to the SpamExperts interface. When logged in as an Email user, users can see their quarantined messages, manage their email settings, train messages, etc.
-
The network security system monitoring incoming and outgoing network traffic for your network.
-
An Identity differs from an Outgoing User/Authentication method in that an identity is an individual sending address while an Outgoing User is a authentication method for all addresses on the sending server. Locking an identity will prevent a single address from being able to relay mail, while not affecting other senders using the same user/authentication mechanism.
-
Incoming email filtering is designed to protect against spam, phishing, viruses, ransomware, malware and other email-borne threats.
-
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol or LDAP is a protocol for accessing directory services. In SpamExperts LDAP is or may be used to query your company's user directory.
-
In SpamExperts, LDAP Authentication allows users to access the SpamExperts interface using their company credentials.
-
LDAP Mailbox Synchronization keeps the list of mailboxes in sync with the users listed in the company's active directory. This allows your system to automatically add mailboxes as they are added to the active directory without manual maintenance.
-
In the interface, you have access to a Log Search function. SpamExperts makes an entry for every connection made when a message is received. All of the information pertaining to email messages can be viewed from the logs (Log Search), i.e. date, host, sender, name, subject, size, message status, etc.

-
The Mailbox is the part of an email address before the '@' sign. All mailboxes that should be filtered and/or archived must be added to SpamExperts.
-
A Mailbox Alias rewrites email from one address at a domain to another address at the same domain. Creating a Mailbox Alias also means the Alias address will use logging, quarantine and filter settings from the Primary Mailbox. For example, if you have admin@ as a Mailbox, but you want mail for the mailbox companyadmin@ to be delivered to the admin@ address, you would add companyadmin@ as an alias.
-
Mail Transfer Agent - Software that transfers email from one computer to another using a client-server application architecture.
-
These are the DNS records necessary for delivering emails to an address. MX records need to point to the SpamExperts cloud routes to ensure email is routed via SpamExperts first for filtering, after which, the mail will be delivered to the recipient(s).
-
Outgoing email filtering helps prevent spam and viruses from leaving networks. With outgoing filtering enabled, outgoing messages are first delivered to SpamExperts's servers where the email is filtered to make sure only legitimate emails leave networks. This is a form of abuse management designed to help avoid business interruptions and maintain clean IP reputations.
-
An Outgoing User is a method to authenticate outboud mail relaying to SpamExperts from the sending server.
-
Quarantined messages are emails that have been flagged as potentially unsafe. Messages may be placed in quarantine for any number of reasons, including a high spam score or because the reputation of the sender is questionable.
-
The destination mail server where mail should be delivered to.
-
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is a communication protocol for email transmission.
-
The server name for you SMTP server.
-
An email security system to protext your domains from spam and virus threats.
-
SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is used to restrict which mail servers are allowed to send email for a domain name. This framework is designed to detect and block email spoofing by providing a mechanism to allow recipients to verify that incoming mail from a domain comes from an IP address authorized by that domain's administrators. SPF is most useful when combined with DMARC.
-
Sub-Admin users are Admin users created by the Mail Assure Admin account holder. Sub-Admins can have the same permissions as the main Admin user.
-
Technician users (previously known as Admin Alias users) can be created for the Admin user which allow multiple people to login with the same permissions as the primary Admin but with their own login credentials.
-
Within SpamExperts, users may train messages as spam or not spam. If a message has been wrongly categorised, users can use the 'Train as...' function to teach the systems that messages statistically similar to this in the future should be treated more (Train as Spam), or less (Train as Not Spam) 'spammy'.
-
This refers to the number of mailboxes you are billed for. Your usage is reviewed on a monthly basis, irrespective of your billing cycle and can be viewed from your Usage Report available on the Customer Success Portal.
-
When creating users within SpamExperts, these have User Levels. The levels are; Admin User Level, Domain User Level, Email User level.
