Monitoring Templates

Monitoring Templates are supported from Windows Monitoring Agent v8.6, Mac Monitoring Agent 3.0.2 and Linux Monitoring Agent 2.0.1. Rather than add each Check or Automated Task at the single or multiple device level (which can be time-consuming, and potentially introduce the possibility of human error) we introduced the ability to deploy a Monitoring Template to an existing Agent for Windows, Mac and Linux computers.

As circumstances and the customer’s requirements change it may become necessary to action bulk changes across devices, for example upgrade from Asset Tracking only to monitoring on Windows computers.

Access to these settings is only available when your Dashboard login has the required Permissions enabled.

Daily Safety Checks run based on the local time of the computer the Agent is installed on.

Installation Templates (Windows Only)

For Windows you can apply the Monitoring Template during Agent installation, this not only reduces the time taken to install the Agent, but also ensures consistency across all of your monitored devices as the Agent is installed and configured to precisely match your specific Check and Automated Task requirements. This reduces setup time and ensuring a configuration consistency across devices.

You can create multiple Monitoring Templates to use when deploying the Agent, either interactively or silently, on devices at different sites.

To ensure all checks function as expected the language of the Monitoring Template must match the language of the Operating System it is to be installed on.

For example, a Windows Service name on an English Operating System may be different to its French counterpart and where a Monitoring Template derived from an English Operating System is installed on a French machine the check for this Service would fail.

Asset Tracking Only (Windows)

To only retrieve the hardware and software asset information from a device or use a feature without monitoring (provide protection via Managed Antivirus or backup files and folders through Backup & Recovery) you can use the Asset Tracking Only templates, available for both servers and workstations. This is covered in the Asset Tracking Only section.

Feature Associated Checks

Depending on the feature, checks may be automatically added to monitor its state. For example, when Backup & Recovery is added to a device we automatically add a 24x7 Windows Service Check (to alert if the Backup Service Controller services stops) and a Daily Safety Check Backup Check to monitor the backup session status.

As these specific feature associated checks are automatically added when you enable the feature, they are excluded from any method to add checks to multiple devices (including Monitoring Templates) to avoid accidental duplication or monitoring of a non-installed product.

If you wish to add another instance of this specific check for this product (in addition to the associated check) it must be added per-device.

As these Automated Tasks are associated with the feature, they are added to the device regardless of Monitoring Template configuration.
