Google Workspace Data Storage Locations During Preview
Cove Data Protection (Cove)'s Google Workspace Protection is currently available in Preview: a pre-release phase that allows customers and their partners to evaluate functionality before general availability.
During Preview, data storage availability is intentionally limited. These limitations help ensure a controlled rollout while the service continues to mature.
Preview is intended for evaluation and testing purposes only and is not recommended for long-term, compliance sensitive, or production grade storage of critical data.
Available Storage Regions During Preview
During all Preview phases, Google Workspace Protection stores data only in the following regions:
- European Union (Ireland)
- United States (Northern Virginia)
Additional regions will be introduced in future releases. Regional selection or migration is not supported during Preview.
Preview Phases and Data Handling
Phase 1: Limited Preview (Limited Access)
Limited Preview provides early access to a small set of customers and partners to validate functionality and gather feedback.
During this phase, you can expect:
- Data is stored in non-production environments
- Data is not intended to be durable and may be deleted as part of normal Preview operations
- No service level agreements (SLAs) apply
- Access is limited and requires explicit customer consent
This phase is designed strictly for testing and evaluation. Customers should avoid storing important, regulated, or production data during Limited Preview.
Phase 2: Data Preserved (Public Preview / Pre-GA)
In this phase, Google Workspace Protection transitions to production grade storage while remaining in Preview.
What changes in this phase:
- Data is preserved
- Storage runs on production grade infrastructure
- Pricing information is published
- Access remains controlled during rollout
What does not change:
- Storage regions remain limited to the EU and US
- Full global regional availability is not yet supported
Although data durability improves in this phase, the service remains in Preview and may continue to evolve.
Data Residency During Preview
Because only EU and US storage regions are available during Preview, customer data is stored as follows.

During Preview, data is automatically routed as above for countries not in the European Union or United States.
Local, in-country data storage is not available during Preview.
Important Considerations
- Preview environments may change as the service approaches general availability.
- Region migration is not supported during Preview.
- Preview is not intended for regulatory driven, long-term, or mission critical use cases.
Customers with strict data residency or compliance requirements should wait for general availability and broader regional support.
