Description

  • Set up restore for Bare Metal Recovery
  • Restore starts scanning but goes back to restore screen and is not running
  • Banner of GUI displays the message:
    • Restore of the selected device on the current machine is not supported, because the latest backup session of the source machine has GPT boot disk, which is not supported as you are currently running in legacy BIOS. Please, either check if your machine supports UEFI or use another machine and reboot in UEFI mode

Environment

  • Data Protection
  • Bare Metal Recovery

Solution

  • As per the message displayed on the GUI, this issue is happening because the Source device (i.e. the device being backed up) has a GPT boot disk and the target device's Firmware is using BIOS which is incompatible
    • This is also noted on the Documentation for Bare Metal Recovery found under the "Target computer requirements" > "Firmware" located here
  • Ensure the source and target device's hardware and software are the same as any differences in the manufacturer, processor, architecture, network interface controller, storage controller etc. may prevent the bare metal recovery process from completing successfully
