N-able Backup: backup not initializing on host with error: Authentication Error

Description

• Standalone backup is not installing.
• Previous initialization attempt failed due to the error: authentication error.

Environment

• N-able Backup
• N-able RMM
• N-able Backup and Recovery

Solution

• Typically occurs due to a conflict between standalone backup and backup integrated with N-able RMM.

1. If you use N-able RMM please ensure that the integrated N-able Backup is not enabled:
   1. Open the RMM dashboard.
   2. Double-click the device.
   3. Click Backup & Recovery.
   4. Turn feature off, then click OK.
2. Reinstall N-able Backup (standalone) by running the installer from here.
