N-able Backup: Can I rename a device in Backup Management Console or Cloud Management Console?

Solution

  • Devices in Backup Management Console or Cloud Management Console cannot be renamed
    • Renaming device is impossible because combination of device name and password is used to obtain token for cloud authentication
    • Token is a part of path within storage nodes and data is strictly attached to path
  • If a name change is absolutely necessary a new device needs to be created with the desired name. The old device should not be deleted until you have a satisfactory number of restore points (backup history) for your purposes.
  • Note: This additional device will be charged separately so as long as you have both devices on your dashboard you will be charged for each.
