- How to set up a new device for N-able Backup in the Backup Management Console
Environment
- N-able Backup
- Backup Management Console
Solution
- Create a new device
- Log into the Backup Management Console
- In Dashboard view, click blue Add button
- Choose deployment method
- Enter Device name
- Will always be all-lowercase, cannot have spaces or most special characters
- Supported special characters are '.', '@', '_' and '-'
- Choose partner to create device under
- Click Next
- Copy down Device name and Password and click Finish
- Install the Backup Manager
- Download the Backup Manager here
- Run the installer as administrator on device
- Right-click installer > Run as administrator
- Follow installation prompts
- Device name and Password are from step #7 under part 1 of this guide
- Security code (also called encryption key) is user-specified
- Please note: we don't store encryption key and can't retrieve it if lost
- Recommended that you store in safe place, or use password manager to keep record of it
- Security code is necessary to restore data if device goes down later
- Once installed, follow user guide for setup
