Install and configure .NET Framework

Ensure you have configured server roles for Microsoft Windows Server before you adjust the IIS and .NET settings.

If you are using .NET Framework 4.6 and later, you will need to ensure backwards compatibility to lower versions. In Windows Server Manager, you will need to have the .NET Framework 3.5 feature enabled.

If you installed .NET Framework 4.5 on IIS 8.0, IIS 8.5 or Windows Server 2016, you must manually adjust the settings to Allow for web extensions (ASP.NET).

Install and configure IIS before installing Microsoft .NET Framework, to ensure that WMI classes are installed properly.
