Search system Log Files

The log file information for system log entries is stored as searchable records in a database.

Level 1 or 2 messages indicate errors. Level 3, 4, or 5 messages are informational.

To view all log entries, select 5 - Debug from the Log Level drop-down.

  1. In Report Manager, click the gear icon in the upper right of the Reports Console window.
    In N-able N-central, navigate to Administration > Report Manager > Administration Console.
  2. Click System Setup and Logs.
  3. The System Setup and Logs screen appears.
  4. Click Log Files.
  5. The Logs Files screen appears.

    The default number of entries retained is 50,000. The list of entries increases over the course of each day, and each night the list is trimmed to keep the most recent 50,000.

    On this screen you can select the following options for filtering your search:

    • Select the Use Date Range check box and specify a Start Date and an End Date to search for log entries within a date range. Use the drop-downs to indicate start and end times in hours and minutes.
    • Clear the Use Date Range check box to include all dates in any search.
    • Specify the Message ID Start and Message ID End to search on a range of message IDs.
    • Specify text in the Message Contains text box to search on a range of message IDs.
    • Select the Exceptions Only check box to filter the search to exceptions.
    • Select a Log Level from the drop-down to filter the log files on the selected log file and above, for example, if you pick 2- Error you will see all log levels for 2 and 1 but not 3, 4 or 5.
  6. Click Search.
  7. The search results defined by the filters you have set appear.
