DNS Filtering requirements and limitations
The integrated DNS Filtering feature in N-central is no longer available for new activations. Existing partners who already have it enabled, can continue using it until it's removed after March 31, 2026.
To use DNS Filtering, we recommend using the standalone version. See the DNS Filtering User Guide for details.
If you're currently using the integrated version, contact an N-able representative with your account name and contact information to begin your migration. For details, see Migrate to standalone DNS Filtering.
The following requirements and limitations are for typical usage patterns, acknowledging that some patterns may require more system resources for an N-able N-central server than others:
-
DNS Filtering is only available for customers who run N-able N-central version 2021.3 HF1 (2021.3.1.94) or later.
-
You cannot activate DNS Filtering on an NFR server.
-
Open port 8800 for outbound traffic to meet N-able N-central Networking Requirements.
-
You can activate DNS Filtering on only one server.
-
N-able N-central only supports DNS Filtering Roaming Client installation on Windows devices for now. Consider Site deployment for Mac and Linux devices.
