Migrate N-able Backup devices to Cove

Migrate eligible N-able Backup integrated(BUI) devices for a customer to Cove Data Protection without uninstalling the Backup Manager. During migration, N-central disables N-able Backup and transfers backup monitoring to Cove.

Before you begin

Verify the following requirements:

  • Target devices are running N-central Agent version 2026.4.0.1 or later.

  • N-able Backup integrated (BUI) is currently enabled on each device you want to migrate.

  • You have the required permissions.

Migrate the devices

  1. Open the customer in N-central.

  2. Select All Devices.

  3. Select one or more devices that have N-able Backup enabled.

  4. Select Migrate BUI to Cove.

  5. Review the migration information in the confirmation dialog.

  6. Select Continue.

Changes made during migration

When migration begins, N-central:

  • Keeps the Backup Manager installed on each device.

  • Disables N-able Backup.

  • Removes the N-able Backup (MSPBackup) monitoring services.

  • Enables the Cove Data Protection monitoring services.

  • Hides the Backup Manager configuration options for migrated devices.

  • Prevents rules from reapplying N-able Backup to migrated devices.

Verify the migration

After the migration completes:

  • Confirm that the Cove monitoring services are present.

  • Confirm that the N-able Backup (MSPBackup) monitoring services are removed.

  • Confirm that the Backup Manager remains installed on each Windows device.

  • Confirm that the Cove backup services report a healthy status.

Backups for the migrated devices are now monitored and managed through Cove Data Protection.
