Connect to Snowflake using Power BI

You can use the Power BI built-in Snowflake connector to connect to Snowflake. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you set up the connection:

  1. Open Power BI.

  2. Click the Get Data button.

  3. Search for Snowflake in the search bar and then select the Snowflake connector.

  4. Click Connect.

  5. Have at hand, the connection details you received when your Direct Data Access account was setup:

    For example:

    • DB name: SHARED_ANALYTICS_DATA

    • DB schema: SHARED_DATA

    • Region: eu-central-1

    • Role name: share_user

    • Warehouse name: WH_2C34F39D_A1CB_4BCF_9488_F68B81AA99F7

  6.  Enter your Snowflake account information:  
  7. Do not include https:// for the server.
     
    1. Server: Enter the URL for your Snowflake account.

    2. Database: Enter the name of the database you want to connect to.

    3. Warehouse: Enter the name of the warehouse you want to use.

    4. Authentication: Choose the authentication method (usually Username/Password or Integrated).

    5. Username and Password: Enter your Snowflake username and password.

    6. Advanced Options (if needed): You might have additional options like Role, Account, and Region depending on your Snowflake setup. Fill these in if necessary.

  8. Add the Snowflake details and click OK.

    Do not include https:// for the server.
