Test modem availability

Test a modem's availability to verify that your modem can be brought on-line and dial out. N-able N-central returns the modem's output, which lists the set of commands that were executed to dial out. If the modem does not connect to the specified telephone number, you can view the point of failure within the output.

The assumption is that the telephone you are testing is located nearby to hear the telephone ringing and validates the test.

This feature is only available at the system or product administrator level.

  1. Go to System Settings > Tools and click Test Modem Availability.
  2. Enter the Telephone Number used to test the modem. Includ any numbers required to obtain an external line.

Do not include spaces or hyphens. For example: 96135552112

  3. Enter the Ringing Time Limit.

This is the length of time that N-able N-central allows the modem to ring before disconnecting. This does not include the initialization and dialing time.

  4. Click Test.
