Service template defaults

N-able N-central enables you to automatically reapply service templates globally to devices when the device properties change or new devices are discovered. This ensures that all services across all customers is up-to-date and consistent across networks.

Service templates may be applied or reapplied when:

  • Device asset changes trigger the System Change service

  • SNMP is enabled or disabled

  • Local Agent is disabled

  • The agent checks in for the first time

  • A discovery job detects changed device information

  • A Service Template is manually reapplied

  • A rule changes whether a device is eligible for the Service Template

To configure service templates:

  1.  Go to AdministrationDefaults > Service Templates.
  2. Select Force re-application of service templates after asset discovery.
  3. After asset discovery, N-able N-central globally re-applies service templates to devices after asset discovery even if no changes are detected.

  4. Select Monitor Windows Services only when startup type is Automatic. When selected, Windows services that have a Manual startup type are not monitored when applied through Service Templates.
  5. Select Propagate to apply the default properties to existing devices. If Propagate is not selected, the change applies only to new devices. This option is not available at the Customer level.
  6. Select Save.

If a Service Template application fails with Service is not Startup Type Automatic, either change the Windows service startup type to Automatic or clear Monitor Windows Services only when startup type is Automatic, then propagate and reapply the Service Template.
