Description

  • This article explains why the Windows Server Backup service is showing a Normal status in N-able N-central even when the backup from the local server had been failing for some time.

Environment

  • N-able N-central

Solution

The monitoring of the service will not work for Windows 2008 Standard as this is not a supported OS. N-able N-central can monitor Windows Backup and Restore on devices provided that they meet the following minimum requirements:

  • The operating system on the device is either Windows 2008 R2, Windows 2012, or Windows 2012 R2.
  • A Professional Mode license is applied to the device in N-able N-central .
  • A current N-able N-central Agent (Version 9.5.1.243 or later) is installed on the device.
  • Windows Backup and Restore is installed on the device.
  • Windows PowerShell 2.0 is installed on the device

Note: Windows 2008 R2 devices must also have the Command-line Tools option enabled when installing Windows Server Backup on the device.

Since the service is not reporting properly, the service can just be disabled.
