Description

User does not have access to their Two-Factor Authentication Backup Code list.

Environment

N-able N-central

Solution

  • In addition to your usual account sign-in, the Two-Step Verification method uses a passcode generated by an authenticator app (for example, Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator) that complies with the OATH TOTP standard (RFC 6238), ensuring the apps securely generate time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs).

  • After signing in to N-able N-central, a list of ten backup codes will be displayed. These codes are automatically generated for use when you do not have access to your mobile device while signing in to N-able N-central. Make sure you copy these backup codes to a safe but accessible location.
  • If you have misplaced your backup codes, you can still view the list and regenerate it if necessary by following the below steps:
  1. Sign in to N-able N-central.
  2. Click your user profile in the top right corner, this opens the Modify User dialog.

  3. Navigate to the User Information tab under User Details.

  4. In the Access section, click Show Backup Codes to list your 2FA backup codes and copy.

  5. Optionally, you can choose to Regenerate Backup Codes which will replace your current list. This regeneration action will invalidate your existing 2FA backup codes.
