VMWare Guest dropped packets

Description

• The Guest (VMWare) service sometimes will report dropped packets. This information can be difficult to find in vCenter, or through SSH on the ESX/ESXi server.

Solution

• Use the vCenter UI and look at the network interface on the guest itself, not the host server. We aggregate the dropped packet data for each guest across all virtual NICs as reported by VMWare's CIM service, into a single value for dropped packets for the guest, so if the VM has more than one vNIC, you will need to add up the dropped packets for all vNICs on the guest.
