Description

  • If the ADMIN share is not accessible, N-able N-central will be unable to install software on client machines that is required by remote agent installation, remote management tasks, or remote control tasks.

Environment

  • N-able N-central

Solution

  • By default, Windows automatically creates an ADMIN$ share, a resource that is used during remote administration of a computer.
  • If this share is not accessible, N-able N-central will be unable to install software on client machines that is required by remote agent installation, remote management tasks, or remote control tasks.
  • The share folder should be accessible by browsing to \\<Host IP Address>\ADMIN$
  • If the share is not accessible, please check the following on the target device:
    1. File and Printer Sharing is enabled
      • More information on this can be found here
    2. Firewall exceptions allowed
      • NOTE: In the 'Exceptions' tab of Windows Firewall property, the 'File and printer sharing' should be allowed.
    3. Allow administrative share access via the registry:
      • NOTE: By default, the if the registry entries are absent/value equal to 0, then the shares have been disabled.
