Troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Update issues and N-able N-central Patch Management

Description

  • This article details how to troubleshoot Windows Update Client (WUC/WUA) issues.

Environment

  • N-able N-central 9.2+

Solution

  1. If possible, please reboot the device
  2. Update the Microsoft Windows Update Client
  3. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter - support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2714434
    • NOTE: You may choose to perform this manual step later on, but this would be recommended first by Microsoft.
  4. Reset the Windows Update components - support.microsoft.com/en-ca/kb/971058
  5. Rename Software Distribution Folder
  6. Run the DISM or System Update Readiness tool to fix Windows corruption errors
  7. Use the System File Checker(support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833) tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
  8. Reset the catroot folder
  9. Restart the device
  10. Run another Patch Detection when the above is completed
