Description
- This article details how to troubleshoot Windows Update Client (WUC/WUA) issues.
Environment
- N-able N-central 9.2+
Solution
- If possible, please reboot the device
- Update the Microsoft Windows Update Client
- If you find that the build version of your Windows Update Client is older than July 2016, you will want to update the WUC using the links below:
- Windows 7 and 2008 R2 systems - support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3172605
- Windows Server 2012 - www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53316
- Windows 8.1 and 2012 R2 systems - support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3172614
- If you find that the build version of your Windows Update Client is older than July 2016, you will want to update the WUC using the links below:
- Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter - support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2714434
- NOTE: You may choose to perform this manual step later on, but this would be recommended first by Microsoft.
- Reset the Windows Update components - support.microsoft.com/en-ca/kb/971058
- Rename Software Distribution Folder

- Run the DISM or System Update Readiness tool to fix Windows corruption errors

- Use the System File Checker(support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833) tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
- Reset the catroot folder

- Restart the device
- Run another Patch Detection when the above is completed
