Description
This article describes how to test the connection between a probe and an ESXi host. This allows you to see if the connection is open for ports 443 and 5989 (CIM Port), and to see if the credentials used are able to pull in data.
Environment
- N-able N-central 6.5 and later
- ESXi 4.5 and later
Solution
- Log in to the probe with the probes user account.
- Navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\N-able Technologies\Windows Software Probe\bin.
- Open the VmWareClient.exe program.
- Note: Use Run as administrator where applicable.
- Enter the IP address or FQDN into Server Name/IP Address field.
- Click the GO button. This tests the port 443 for a valid connection, example below.

VMware server discovered.
The server is ESX server. - Test CIM port (5989) for a valid connection.
- Click the CIM button.
- Enter the credentials for the ESXi host.
- Select a single CIM value. For example, CIM_Fan.

This tests your credentials and validate that they are able to pull data from the ESXi host. The following example shows that valid data is returned, and you can click on the + symbol to see the information returned.
