Take Control (N-able N-central): Error The system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly.

Description

After installing Take Control the N-Able Take Control Service will fail to start.

Windows Event logs shows the following Error:

Error: The N-Able Take Control Service (N-able N-central) service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly.

Environment

Windows 10 Build 1803 and Windows Server 2016 and 2019 and newer.

All Versions of N-able N-central and Integrated Take Control

Solution

Microsoft has fully disabled Interactive Service Detection starting with Windows 10 Build 1803 and Windows Server 2016 and 2019. Starting with these versions, access to Session 0 is no longer possible.

To Fix the issue:

1. Open the registry editor ie: regedit.exe
2. Navigate to the following path:

• hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control\windows

3. Edit the 'NoInteractiveServices' REG_DWORD value from 1 to 0.

Take Control Services should now start successfully.
