Set up syslog messaging in a device

Description

• This article provides steps to monitor and collect syslog using a Probe.

Environment

• All N-able N-central versions

Solution

1. The monitored device must be configured to send syslog messages to the IP address of the Windows probe.
2. Ensure the probe has the Windows Service running: Windows Software Probe Syslog Service. This service is install automatically
3. Go to the monitored device (not the probe) and add the Security Logs service. Once the service is added the Windows Software Probe Syslog Service will get utilized.
4. Configure the Security Log service to parse the syslog for regular expressions.
