Description

Report Manager can be accessed in two ways, through the N-able N-central User Interface (UI) by clicking on Reports > Report Manager or by directly accessing the Report Manager server by IP, FQDN, etc.

This article will help you diagnose and resolve issues when accessing Report Manager through the N-able N-central server as described above.

Environment

  • Report Manager 3.0 and higher
  • N-able N-central 9.5 and higher

Solution

There are three things to check when you’re unable to access Report Manager by clicking on Reports > Report Manager in the N-able N-central UI. These topics will be discussed further below.

  1. Verify that the N-able N-central user you’re logged in as has permission to Report Manager, and that it’s enabled for use for the customer you’re accessing;
  2. Verify that the IP settings for Report Manager are properly configured and you’re accessing Report Manager from a location that can route to the IP settings you’ve chosen; and
  3. Verify that your Browser is configured correctly to allow Mixed Mode (HTTP and HTTPS) browsing. This is one of the most common causes of issues while attempting to reach Report Manager.

  • Enabling Access to Report Manager Reports

You can enable access for existing SO accounts, either through the editing default settings (Administration > Report Manager > Access Permissions) or by editing their account information manually. All SO accounts added subsequently to the system will have automatic access to Report Manager. By default, customers do not have automatic access to Report Manager reports. This allows you to enable access on a customer by customer basis. After a customer has access to Report Manager reports, you can enable access for existing user accounts, either by editing default settings (Administration > Report Manager > Access Permissions) or by editing their account information. All user accounts that are added subsequently to the system will have automatic access to Report Manager.

To enable Service Organization access to N-able N-central reports:

  1. Sign-in as the Product Administrator and navigate to the Service Organization for which you would like to change the Report Manager access.
  2. Click Administration > Report Manager > Access Permissions.
  3. To enable access to Report Manager, select Yes to enable access or No to disable access to Report Manager reports.
  4. Enable existing customer and SO account access by selecting the customer and SO accounts and to move them from the Available column to the Selected column.
  5. Click OK to save your changes.
NOTE: In N-able N-central 11.0+ access to Report Manager is handled via user roles rather than as an SO level configuration.
  • Verifying the IP Settings of the Report Manager Server

When accessing Report Manager within N-able N-central by clicking on Reports > Report Manager, Report Manager is loaded in the main frame where your Customer and Device information typically appear. The page is being pulled directly from the Report Manager server; therefore, it must either have an External IP or only be accessed from within the internal network where Report Manager is located. By default, during initial Install Report Manager attempts to use the internal IP address, therefore attempting access from outside the internal network will not function. To review and modify these settings:

  1. Sign into the Report Manager Administration Console as the Report Manager Administrator.
  2. Click System Setup & Logs.
  3. Click Advanced Settings.
  4. Review and update the IP addresses or Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) as necessary.
  • The ExportIP and NcWSURL fields can both be left as an Internal IP address. This value is used by the N-able N-central server to export data directly into the SQL Server databases.
  • The MenuURL and AdminURL fields should be set to something that can be accessed from the machines that will be used to run reports and administer the Report Manager server. This typically should be an FQDN that will resolve to the devices internal IP within the internal network and to the external IP when accessed from outside.
  • The ReportServerURL field must be reachable from the local machine where Report Manager is located, as well as from the devices where you intend to run reports and administer Report Manager. This should also be an FQDN that will resolve to the devices internal IP within the internal network and to the external IP when accessed from outside.
  1. Whenever making changes to this page always ensure that you click Push Settings to All Data Sources at the bottom to propagate these changes.
  • Enable Mixed Mode browsing in your chosen browser
Please refer to the online help for your chosen browser to see how to enable Mixed Mode browsing.
