Report Manager - Installation Error - This account does not have the necessary roles assigned

Description

  • When attempting to upgrade or install Report Manager and within the Installation Wizard the partner receives the following message " This account does not have the necessary roles assigned in order to be used with Report Manager".

Environment

  • N-able N-central
  • Report Manager

Solution

  1. Log into SQL Management Studio.
  2. Expand Security > Logins and confirm the Windows account used is in this list.
  3. If the account is not listed under Logins you will want to add it and make sure the account has both Public enabled as well as Sysadmin roles.
  4. If the account is already added then confirm the above roles are select by right clicking on the user account, select Properties > Server Roles.
  5. If the account is added in SQL and the issue still persists then you will want to open Internet Explorer by right-clicking and choosing Run as Administrator: http://localhost/Reports/
  6. Click on Folder Settings. Note: If you click on Folder Settings and nothing happens then open the browser as Administrator.
    1. If you see the account, select the checkbox next to Edit and select Content Manager role.
    2. If you do not see the account, click New Role Assignment and type the Windows User account name in the field provided.
  7. Click OK or Apply to assign the role to this account.
  8. Once the account has been added click on Site Settings in the upper right corner.
  9. Select Security in the left pane.
  10. If you see the account, select the checkbox next to Edit and select System User role.
  11. If you do not see the account, click New Role Assignment and type the Windows User account name in the field provided.
  12. Click OK or Apply to assign the role to this account.
  13. You should now be able to continue on with the installation of Report Manager.
