Report Manager - Error 401 unauthorized when generating a report

Description

• The following error message appears when trying to generate a report within Report Manager:
  • Error: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

Environment

• N-able N-central
• Report Manager

Solution

• The following are common causes and resolutions for the issue:
  1. Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is Unavailable or incorrectly configured.

  2. The Windows account used by Report Manager has had a password reset

  3. The Report Manager server is using an inaccessible address (such as, an external address instead of the localhost).

  4. The associated account does not have Content Manager and System User roles applied

  5. Issue is experienced with Report Manager being installed on Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003 SP1

  6. The SQL Server/Report Manager account permissions are misconfigured

       • During reinstall, only use the INTERNAL IP field, and disable the external IP, which can be configured later.

• NOTE: Make sure to select the correct location of your SQL DB (SQLData folder) and logs (SQLLog folder) or it will cause a break in the continuity of your reporting.
