Re-install the Windows Agent using the Activation Key method

Description

  • This article details the steps on how to reinstall the windows agent to resolve some agent specific issues. Reinstalling with this method will reconnect the machine to the device within N-able N-central, preserving historical data, configuration and services.

Environment

  • N-able N-central

Solution

  1. Log in to the N-able N-central Server User Interface (UI) and browse to the customer in question.
  2. Click on All Devices
  3. Click on the Device you want to reinstall the Agent
  4. Click on Settings > Local Agent
    • NOTE: From here please note the Activation Key
  5. On the device in question, download the generic installer file just below the Activation Key portion.
  6. Run the Agent installer
  7. On the wizard, when prompted for the install options, choose the Activation Key method
  8. Enter the Activation Key from step 4
  9. Proceed with the rest of the steps to complete the installation process
  10. Check back on N-able N-central the Agent Status service and verify that its checking in normally.
