Description

How can I determine whether my RDP session to a device will use one monitor or multiple monitors?

Environment

N-able N-central 2020.1+

Solution

N-able N-central 2020.1 includes a new RDP launcher to replace the old Java-based remote control, when you are connecting from a Windows device.

To determine whether the RDP session will attempt to use one or multiple monitors:

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, click All Devices.

  2. Click device name to view device details.

  3. Click Remote Control SettingsRemote Desktop.

  4. If Enable Multi-Monitor Support is checked, the session will expand across multiple monitors if you are using them. If it is unchecked, the RDP session will just launch in one monitor.

To set this as a default for all devices:

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, click Administration.

  2. Click Defaults.

  3. Click Remote Control Defaults.

  4. Select the device type (e.g. Laptops - Windows).

  5. In the Default Connection Type drop-down, select Remote Control.

  6. Click the checkbox next to Enable Multi-Monitor Support.

  7. In the bottom left, click Save.
