Description

  • When downloading the Take Control viewer package, you may receive an error stating:
Error: "MSPA N-able N-central Installer - 1.00.33.pkg" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

Environment

  • Devices running macOS

Solution

  • This is due to local security preferences in place on the machine. By default, the preferences are set to only allow applications to be installed if one of two criteria is met:

1) It has been downloaded via the App Store.

2) It has been downloaded from a Mac Certified Developer.

To correct this, partners will need to do the following :

1) Select the Apple Icon and click "System Preferences."

2) Choose "Security & Privacy."

3) Select the "General" tab.

4) If the "Allow apps downloaded from:" section is greyed out, click the lock icon in the lower left-hand corner.

5) If prompted, enter in your password.

6) Change the selection from "Mac App Store and identified developers" to "Anywhere."

7) In the new window, click the "Allow From Anywhere" button.

8) Close all windows and try the install again.

You should still get the warning popup, but you'll now have an option to either Open or Cancel the install.

This should be a temporary measure until the installer is signed with the proper certificate, which should take a week or two.

At that point, this can be restored to the "Mac App Store and identified developers" option.
